Bengali polymath Rabindranath Tagore was a poet, playwright, novelist, composer, philosopher, social reformer, and painter. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, he used contextual modernism to transform Indian art, Bengali literature, and music. Gitanjali was the first non-European and the first lyricist to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. He is the author of the “profoundly sensitive, fresh, and beautiful” poetry.
