Ajit Pawar Career
After being elected to the board of a cooperative sugar plant in Pune in 1982, Ajit Pawar began active politics. He was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1991 from the Maharashtra constituency of Baramati. However, when Sharad Pawar was selected as the Defence Minister in the PV Narasimha Rao government, he was not a Member of Parliament at the time and had to become one within six months, therefore Ajit relinquished his seat to Sharad Pawar. vacated.

As Minister for Water Resources in August 2002, he was accused of leasing 141.15 ha (348.8 acres) of property from Maharashtra Krishna Valley Development Corporation (MKVDC) to Lavasa, a project billed as a “vision of Sharad Pawar.” According to reports, the lease between MKVDC and Lavasa was executed at rates far lower than the market rate.
